PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES

My approach to psychotherapy is grounded in my past training in Gestalt and humanistic-existential therapies. I assume that each person has the potential to achieve satisfaction and fulfillment in his or her life. I believe that we each have a tremendous capacity for self-awareness and self-healing. Although a diagnosis can sometimes be useful to a person seeking help, the richness and breadth of a person's life experience cannot be captured in a diagnosis. Each individual's story is unique and his or her strengths and resilience must be appreciated and incorporated into treatment.

Research has consistently shown that the relationship between the therapist and the patient is the most important aspect of any successful psychotherapy. Additional studies have demonstrated that no single approach to treatment is clearly superior to any other, and that different approaches to therapy work best with different individuals.

With this evidence in mind, I attempt to tailor treatment to the needs and personality of my patient. Each of my patients is an active participant in setting goals and deciding on the course of treatment. Therapist and patient become true allies and collaborate in achieving these goals. Feedback from each participant to the other is ongoing. Together we periodically review and alter the treatment plan as needed.

My varied training and experience in different models of therapy allow me to provide effective psychotherapeutic treatment to adults, adolescents, families, and couples.
